I Should Buy A Boat

You can think of this as a sort of variation on a classic cocktail called a Brown Derby. The original is mixed with bourbon, grapefruit, and honey syrup. At the time I originally conceived of this cocktail, I was infatuated with the combination of a brown spirit, grapefruit, and cinnamon.

For this variation, I swapped honey for cinnamon, bourbon for rum, and lengthened with prosecco. The idea here is to create something with tiki allusions, but lacking the complex method that tiki drinks generally require.

This drink may seem simple, but I think it hides a beguiling deliciousness beneath its deceptive exterior.

I Should Buy a Boat

1.5 oz Dark Rum (Doorly's)

1 oz Ruby Red Grapefruit Juice (It had better be fresh)

.5 oz Cinnamon Syrup

2 oz Prosecco

Shake all but Champagne over ice and double strain over fresh ice.

Top with 2 oz Champagne and garnish with a grapefruit slice.

Grate a bit of fresh cinnamon on top of the grapefruit, tableside.

Cheers!
